Jade rings
A solid jade ring cannot be resized, so get the size right first.

Band, saddle or cabochon
Plain band
A solid band cut from one stone, with no metal. Fingers swell in the evening and in warm weather, so measure then.
Saddle ring
A long curved top sits across the finger like a saddle. It shows more stone than a band, so the color has to hold up.
Cabochon ring
A smooth dome set in gold, often with small diamonds around it. Most fine jadeite rings take this form.
Measure twice. Jade does not stretch, and it cannot be sized.

Good to know
Can a jade ring be resized?
A solid jade band cannot be resized, because it is carved from one stone. A jade stone set in a metal ring usually can, since the jeweler works on the metal.
What is a jade thumb ring?
A jade thumb ring, or banzhi, began as an archer's guard for drawing a bowstring. By the Qing dynasty it had become a status piece for Manchu nobles and collectors.
Which finger should I wear a jade ring on?
Any finger you like. There is no fixed rule in China. Many people choose the hand they use less, since jade can chip on hard surfaces.
