The brewer
A gaiwan or small teapot holds the leaves. Porcelain suits any tea. Unglazed Yixing clay is best kept to one tea.
Pitcher and cups
The pitcher evens out each steep. Small cups cool fast, so every sip arrives at the right heat.
Tray and tools
A tray catches spills and rinse water. Add a strainer and towel. The six-piece bamboo tool kit looks nice, but you will rarely need it.

What is in a gongfu tea set?
A brewer, a fairness pitcher, small cups and a tray. Many sets add a strainer, tongs and a towel. Only the brewer and cups are truly required.
What size gongfu teapot should I buy?
Buy about 100 to 150 ml (3 to 5 oz) for two to four people. Larger brewers take longer to empty, so the tea sits on the leaves too long.
Should I buy porcelain or Yixing clay?
Buy porcelain first. It holds no flavor and handles every tea. Add a Yixing pot later for one favorite tea, and know that many are mass-produced.
