1

Seat the cone

Set a backflow cone over the top hole, with its hollow base right above the opening. Any gap spoils the flow.

2

Light it and wait

Wave out the flame and leave it alone. Smoke may drift up at first, then start to fall within a minute or two.

3

Stop the draft

Cooled smoke sinks only gently. A fan, air vent or open door will scatter it, so move the burner, then air the room after.

Smoke, behaving like water.

What to look for

选A clean top hole and open channel. Rough casting blocks the smoke.
选A dish or base that catches residue. Falling smoke leaves a sticky film.
选Glazed ceramic wipes clean. Unglazed clay can stain.
选Cones with a centered, clear hole. Regular cones won't work.

Falling smoke stays low, where children and pets breathe. Air the room afterward, and skip it around asthma or pet birds.

Good to know

How does a backflow incense burner work?

The cone has a hollow base. Smoke cools inside it, becomes denser than the room air, and sinks through the hole. The burner's shape then guides it down, like water over rocks.

Why is my backflow burner not working?

A draft is the usual cause. Turn off fans, close windows, and check the cone is dry and seated over the hole. Clean the channel too, since residue can block it.

Is backflow incense safe?

It is no safer than stick incense. It still makes smoke and fine particles, and they stay lower in the room. Keep sessions short and air the room after.
